How Much Capacity Does A Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee Cup Have?

As the number of people who drink coffee has grown significantly, hundreds of coffee shops and brands have popped up all over the world, bringing with them a lot of new ideas and fierce competition for product image and quality. However, “veteran” brands like Dunkin have always stood out because of the way their coffee tastes and how they treat their customers. This is also why they are able to stay in business in the highly competitive market of today.

Having said that, younger people still don’t know much about these brands, and they often ask things like, “How many ounces is a medium and large iced coffee at Dunkin?” or “What are the most impressive facts about that brand?”. This post will help you to answer those queries and dig deep into the Dunkin brand.

A Brief History About How Dunkin Donuts Got Started And Who Found It

Who Thought Up Dunkin Donuts?

William Rosenberg, the man who started this coffee and donut brand, was born in Massachusetts in 1916 and grew up in the city of Boston. Rosenberg had to quit eighth grade to help support his family during the Great Depression. His first job was taking the ice to a racetrack in New Hampshire and shooting each pack of ice for 10 cents. As he is good at business by nature, he makes 171 USD a day just from this job.

Rosenberg had a lot of jobs after that. He once said in an interview, “Hard work pays off,” and he started out delivering ice cream. When he was 17, he got a job at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, which is the second largest shipbuilder and manufacturer in the United States. The start of World War II was also a turning point in the career of this “business genius.”

Thanks to experience with distribution accumulated from his time at the racetrack and in the steel business, he initially started his business with the idea of a food truck. In the time right after the war, he quickly owned 140 food trucks and 25 chain stores.

He then soon came to realize that all the items on the menu, coffee and donuts made up 40% of sales. Knowing what American customers wanted, he made the brave decision to open his first store that sold donuts, a typical kind of sweet cake in America.

What’s So Special About The Birth Of Dunkin’?

American customers found it strange when Dunkin Donuts opened because the store only sells different kinds of donuts and coffee instead of other, more traditional foods. It didn’t seem like having many choices for customers, but in fact, it was a smart move at the time because customers could buy cakes and coffee to go quickly instead of spending a lot of time choosing from the menu or waiting for it to be made. Actually, the speed and ease of service are one of the reasons why so many people go to Dunkin Donuts during busy times.

Dunkin’s Growth After Its Start

After opening its first store in 1948, Dunkin opened a second one in 1953. With creative thinking and constant innovation, Dunkin has come up with 52 different kinds of cakes. These cakes are diverse enough to give customers a new taste experience, especially during special weeks or holidays. By 1963, the company had opened its 100th store, and by 1979, there were 1000 of them. People think of Dunkin’ Donuts as one of the first companies to use the franchise business model, even before global brands like KFC or McDonald’s.

Currently, Dunkin Donuts is one of the largest coffee chains in the world, with 12,870 locations and 3,200 international restaurants in 46 countries. Just in the US, Dunkin has made 118.7 million USD. Its global revenue is estimated at 1.37 billion USD, and total assets are worth more than 5 billion USD. Compared to the $2,500 Rosenberg started in 1948, this is absolutely astonishing. Dunkin’ Donuts has become one of the most profitable food brands in the world.

How Many Ounces Is A Dunkin Donuts Large Iced Coffee?

Most of the time, each coffee brand will offer different names and sizes for the coffee cups they sell. However, when it comes to Dunkin Donuts, the sales process is always made simple and straightforward. Specifically, they only sell iced coffee cups in three basic sizes: small (S), medium (M), and large (L).

A large iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts has 32 ounces of coffee, while a medium one contains 24 ounces. Finally, the small cup of ice coffee in Dunkin Donuts only holds 16 ounces.

In comparison to its competitor, Starbucks, the Trenta (the largest iced coffee cup) is 2 ounces smaller than Dunkin’s largest glass, while the Venti and Grande at Starbucks are about the same volume as the medium and small glasses at Dunkin. In contrast, Dunkin doesn’t have any other smaller size, but Starbucks has its Tall glass which is enough to contain only 12 ounces of iced coffee.

Dunkin Donuts Brand Name Change

In September 2018, the company publicly announced that it would change its name from Dunkin’ Donuts to just Dunkin’, removing the Donuts section. However, the company will continue to sell donuts as usual. We can guess that one of the reasons for this change is how popular Dunkin coffee is. They also don’t want new customers to think that they only sell donuts here.

In fact, a lot of people have called “Dunkin’ Donuts” “Dunkin’,” starting with their famous catchphrase, “America Runs on Dunkin”, which was introduced in 2006. Even if you don’t go to this chain very often, you will also hear a lot of people call “Dunkin’ Donuts” “Dunkin”. Therefore, it makes sense that changing a brand’s name is just a way to make things more official.

Final Thought

Old coffee chains don’t offer anything new to customers, but there’s always something nostalgic and memorable about them, and Dunkin does a great job of this. Hopefully, you find this post helpful in providing information about Dunkin coffee chains, and see you in my next posts.
